Hello I know that 12VDC is 12V DC everywhere my concern is will the plug on the GPS from the USA fit into the outlet on the car I will be renting from Zurich Switzerland Thank You Randy
No problem, the plug in for your GPS is exactly the same in Europe as in the US (or Asia, for that matter). Auto makers seem to have settled on the standard and don't stray from it.
every modern car with a power point/lighter anywhere in the world has the same configuration. I haven't checked every single one everywhere, but it is a standard.
Randy, As the others have said, you'll have no problem connecting the lighter plug to European cars, as they're the same as here. Be sure that your GPS unit has European maps loaded.
In support of the "make sure you have European maps loaded" comment elsewhere: I was given a Europe map SD card for a Garmin HC series geocaching device. Didn't get much use, BUT I popped it into our older Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS and - though we are still in Oregon - it seems to recognize all the French addresses I am entering and (I am assuming) once we are in Europe, it will read local satellites and guide us through Provence. Here's hoping. I think these cards are available via Garmin - or other - websites.
