Google Translate doing simultaneous translations

Anyone try this? Google translate will now do a simultaneous translation. One person speaks, the other person speaks, they are both speaking different languages, and the phone is translating back and forth without pressing any buttons or anything.

It only works on a mobile device so far. Download the latest Google Translate app, select the two languages, and select the "live translate" button.

Right now, I'm using it to learn Spanish.

I say, "I am learning Spanish." and the phone says, "Estoy aprendiendo Espanol."

Or I can say, "Estoy aprendiendo Espanol." and the phone will say, "I am learning Spanish."

Pretty cool.

I have not yet tried it and I am interested in how well it works. I considered getting the new Airpods that offer in ear translation. They and OS26 which is required dropped the same day I left on my current trip to Germany. I priced the Airpods over here. They are €249 here and $249 in US.

It seems like there is a disadvantage with using the Airpods to do live translations, because they will only speak into your own ears. The other person cannot hear it. Google Translate on a cell phone will do the back and forth where both people can hear the translations. I speak English, the other person speaks Spanish, Google Translate goes in both directions so we can both hear the translations and have a conversation. Plus it's free.

I've tried it with my wife. I put the phone between us, I spoke English and it was translated into spoken Chinese, she replied in Chinese and it translated it into spoken English.

I'm not sure how new this is, but I did have to download the latest version of Google Translate to my cell phone to enable this feature.

When I was working, I had a number of non-English speaking clients. I used to use Microsoft Translate as this app did just what you're describing. It was pretty cool! Not sure if Microsoft still supports this app as others, like Google Translate, may have surpassed their technology and function. Regardless, this capability is incredibly useful and, imo, fun!
