"Google Inc. is acquiring the Frommer's travel brand from publicly traded John Wiley & Sons Inc. for an undisclosed price in order to bolster its offerings of local reviews around the world. The deal is expected to close shortly. Google hasn't yet decided whether the Frommer's guidebooks will continue to be published in print or whether they will eventually migrate entirely to online. It is also possible that the Frommer's brand could be melded into the Zagat brand, which Google acquired last year." How do you think "Google Travel Reviews" will change the world? Unlike Tripadvisor, Holidaycheck etc. who only are leaders in one or maybe a few countries Google is THE No.1 search engine in all countries around the world (but China)...
Seems to me, Google isn't getting much more than their map applications already offer, except perhaps the name recognition of Frommers. Google Maps and Earth can show you all the hotels and restaurants in an area that may interest you, then they allow you to link directly to the establishments website and see user reviews. Does adding "Frommer's Recommended" to the link really add that much? But of course, I know nothing of the details, so lets see how this plays out.
