Several months ago, someone on the Hotline listed a URL where you can go in and check out the streets/places where you will be staying. It was great to use. I've been on Google Earth and this is not working as well as what I had been doing. Do you have a URL to get into - it is Google Earth or another site that works really well. There was such detail to what I viewed for England.
Use Google maps instead at: http://maps.google.com Above the zoom/unzoom bar you will see an icon that looks like the "men's room" symbol:) Drag that icon to the street you want to check out. But street-view isn't available in all areas. Belgium and Portugal won't allow Google to take pics around their roadways. Currently Germany only has street-view for the big cities.
Google maps, satellite view. Type in the address of where you will be staying and when the image comes up, simply click on the A. A pop box will appear with a street view image (if of course it's been taken). Click on the picture and you'll be able to see what's around where you are staying. You can also use the directions option that will show you how to get from your accommodation to another locale, via car, public transport or on foot. For whatever reason it won't print the satellite image when you hit the print icon. Will only print the map view so I do a screen capture of this Google Image. (On a Mac, it's Shift, command, 4) and then print it out. I always travel with a small note book and I tape this map in the notebook. Provides me a reference point enabling me to explore different routes. Enabled me to opt for a shorter boat ride to my Venice apartment, by opting not to take the MUCH longer scenic Grand Canal route. Saved that route for the morning I left. Also showed me, with the exception of the Vatican, how close sites were in Rome. LOVE Google maps!
Thank you!
Sharon, Try this..... Google Street View If you click Try Google Maps With Street View, it will provide you with a screen to enter the location you want to look at. As the others have mentioned, look for the "little man icon", and then drag that to the street you want to view. Cheers!
