Good travel locations for Europe car trips with small dog

Hi All,

For context: we are located in Poland. During the pandemic, we adopted the loveliest little creature from our local shelter. We shifted from plane holidays further away, to car holidays within driving distance from our city.

My question is: what are some countries/regions that you would recommend for travelling by car with a small (~8 kg) dog?
We have already been to northern Spain and Slovenia, and we are now looking for inspiration.

Our preferences:
- no more than ~2 days driving from southern Poland
- a place that is generally dog-friendly (dogs allowed in restaurant gardens etc.)
- dog-friendly accommodation available
- we lean more towards natural attractions (hikes, waterfalls, hills) rather than architecture (churches/museum), although we do appreciate the occasional beautiful medieval town
- our dog scares easily and is afraid of other dogs (as such, most Balkan countries are out of the question, with their packs of feral aggressive dogs roaming the countryside)
- it shouldn't be too hot, to avoid overheating the dog (we plan to travel in shoulder season, usually June or September)

What types of places can you recommend? Thank you all in advance

Germany and Austria are beautiful, easy to drive in, lots of hiking and natural beauty, lots of historic small towns and very very dog friendly. I've seen dogs all over and they are allowed in my many shops, etc. I can't speak for all places, but I know they have accommodations that will allow dogs.

I agree with Mardee. I'd be heading for Austria and Bavaria. Both seem to be very dog friendly, and temperatures are favorable too.
