Good shoes

Any ideas on a good pair of shoes to wear on a month long trip to Europe with some hiking included? Would probably be a better ideas than wearing Nike runners the whole trip. Thanks.

I only take a pair of Merrell low cut hikers for 2 weeks in Europe.

So much depends on what you like, where you are going and what time of year. If it's summer, a pair of light hikers might be perfect. I've lightened my load and only take one pair of shoes, but I add a pair of flip-flops in my bag.

Shoes can add a lot of weight. I stopped buying any heavy shoe, usually because of steel shanks in the sole, so that anything in my closet is suitable for travel.

I'll go through my entire itinerary and narrow it down to one pair of shoes (in my closet, not new) that is versatile enought to cover all my planned activities. Sometimes that can be just a pair of runners (but I'd suggest trail runners because they have a little more lateral support), sometimes a comfortable pair of dress shoes is all you need (but not if hiking is part of the plan). Sometimes you need to plan for rain so it eliminates all the shoes that don't do well in the wet. I like to have some traction on the bottom, even if it's just a dress shoe, so it's not slippery when it rains.
