Good news story - lost day pack

Well, all the stories you hear about never leave your bag here or there because you'll never see it again... Our faith was been restored in people. Yesterday we were severely jet lagged and tired after a long flight to CDG from the west coast via Amsterdam. We were taking the hotel schuttle bus from the airport to the nearby hotels in Roissy when my normally uber vigilant and careful husband neglected to take his day pack with him when we were dropped off. Talk about feeling like a collosal idiot..... After getting the wonderful ladies at the reception desk to call the bus company, and ensuring my husband wait out front until the driver and bus made its return trip, we were rewarded with the returned bag and contents. It could have easily been a different story. Now to enjoy the rest of our vacation without any more incidents!

Susan,

It's great to hear that you had a favourable outcome with the lost day pack, as the more common scenario is not as good.

Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks for posting this, Susan. Same thing happened when a friend left her camera in a taxi in Firenze - the hotel tracked down the cab and they brought the camera back to my friend.

After every purchase, my wife asks me if I have my credit card. Talk about annoying!! Of course, when I lose it, THAT is annoying. So, the moral is, get into habits of checking, and BOTH parties should cross check. My normal travel stuff includes an expensive camera, and an important hat. We always check, both of us, for these items.

Thanks for sharing. Good news stories of your kind are a contrast to the "scams" and petty theft stories.

I had two similar good news stories. One leaving my Patagonia fleece jacket at the Ivalo, FInland airport bus stop and the other leaving my day pack on the train at a whistle stop between Klosters and Davos, Switzerland. As in your case, the combination of honesty and the kindness of strangers resulted in happy endings in both cases.

you win some you lose some;
but remember still keep anything you believe you can not afford to lose on your person or at home.

I have a similar story, also with a good outcome. I was in Èvora, Portugal this summer with a friend. I must have dropped my iPhone while we were in the park opposite the Roman temple ruins. I didn't notice the loss until we had returned to our hotel. I was frantic as I ran back to the last place I remembered using it, only to find a group of very helpful teenage boys searching for someone who looked like they had lost something. They had my phone, and returned it to me without wanting any reward except, of course, for my profuse and heartfelt thanks.
