Good Local Restaurants in Lisbon, Barcelona and Lyon

Dear forum members, I am heading to these three cities in early September. Could you recommend me some good restaurants? Budget is around 15 to 20 EURO per head. Thanks in advance!

Spain eats late, 9 pm is about the earliest a restaurant is going to open up (there are always Burger Kings and KFCs). If you don't want to eat that late, Tapas starts about 7:30 to 8 pm. My favorite Tapas place in Barcelona is La Xampaneria (Can Paixano)
the street address is Carrer de la Reina Cristina, 7:

Immediately to the right of "Internacional" in this street view:

Here's a good photo:

It's not fancy, some people are turned off by that, but it's cheaper and better than anywhere else I found in Barcelona.

I would make recommendations for Lyon, but 15-20 euros is a bit low for a decent meal there. If you can take it up to 25 (not including wine) I can suggest some things.

I was going to make the same comments. Twenty Euro is on the cheap side. You are hard press to get by in a good US restaurants for $20 - $26. Spain is big on the tapas bars and if careful with your choices and limited drink you could stay under 20E. But it is easy to spend more.

Thank you all for your replies! Sure, I can do above 25 EURO. So please give me some suggestions (no need for fancy ones).
Meal time starts at 9pm in Spain?! Oh boy...

If you get the Lyon tram 1 out from the city centre towards Part-Dieu and get off the tram at the Palais de Justice stop, there are a few very nice restaurants around - especially Le Bistrot du Palais and L'Ame Soeur.

Two places in Barcelona to recommend. First is La Boqueria. http://www.boqueria.info/index.php It's a very large indoor open market place about half way down La Rambla from Plaza de Catalunya. It has dozens of varied food stands. Most any kind of fresh food, meat, cheese, nut or candy. Lots of different types of places to eat. Not expensive.

Secondly, is our favorite tapas bar. Bar Lobo. Rated in the top ten restaurants in Barcelona by Tripadvisor. It's immediately behind the Hotel 1898 which is also on La Rambla. Great tapas and a very nice breakfast. We were staying at the Hotel 1898 (during the La Merce festival in September) and we had breakfast there each morning. Andrea from Sacramento joined us on our last day in Barcelona (her first day) and we had tapas there in the early evening. Great tapas. Very true that the Spaniards there don't eat dinner until about 10:00am. http://grupotragaluz.com/en/restaurante/bar-lobo/

By the way one of the worst dinners we've ever had while traveling was at La Xerinola. It's also on La Rambla. Looks great on the outside but for us, the food, especially the paella, was expensive and terrible. Here's a screenshot of the Tripadvisor rating on this place. http://gyazo.com/959cd6291b665c7b787a077b3ae35ff0 It's rated 4,726 out of 5,965 restaurants in Barcelona for good reasons. Unfortunately, we didn't see this rating until after we ate there.

Barcelona...BERNIE’S DINER GRILL & BAR BARCELONA VIA LAIETANA 20, Loc. 1, 2 Y 3.08003. BORN. BARCELONA T 931 85 77 35
This place is amazing...Yes, it is an American Style Diner, but well worth the visit...Try the Fried Green Tomatoes...unlike any here in the states...Basically behind the Santa Maria del Mar Church.

Also Restaurante El Raco De La Villa...off the beaten tourist track, and perhaps above the budget you have set, but check out its website...absolutely a gem and I hope to return.

Here are some for Lisbon:

Not cheap, but fado is included, Sr. Fado in the Alfama was our favorite: http://www.tripadvisor.com/RestaurantReview-g189158-d1788423-Reviews-SrFadodeAlfama-Lisbon_Estremadura.html. If this link -- http://www.sr-fado.com/ -- goes to the Portuguese version, you can click on the British flag and get English. Best of all you get some music! The food is great, but fado doesn't happen every night, so you'll want to check in advance and make reservations if you are in Lisbon a night when they are playing and singing. And the place is tiny. I counted about 25 chairs. After the meal, they lock (sort of) the front doors and then the music happens.

Perhaps too touristy for some, but we enjoyed lunch outside under the arcade at Cafe Martinho da Arcada -- http://www.tripadvisor.com/RestaurantReview-g189158-d1045672-Reviews-CafeMartinhoDaArcada-Lisbon_Estremadura.html. Their direct link is -- http://www.martinhodaarcada.pt/en/index-en.php. It's also a great place for that famous Lisbon pastime, coffee and dessert. In fact, it says it's a coffee restaurant since 1782. The menu is in Portuguese, English and French. If you do get dessert, get one of the great cakes or perhaps some pasteis.

Other than those two, I recommend that you go to Trip Advisor for restaurants in Lisbon, click on the map and match up the area you are staying with the restaurants in the area. There are lots of good little places with a great variety of cuisines.
