good hotel stay in Paris?

Husband and I are planning to go to Paris in May/June for our one year anniversary. We would like to stay somewhere in District 5, 6, 7, or 13. We are on a budget therefore we are just looking for a safe, clean average hotel to stay, room doesn't have to be big or anything, from May 27 to May 31 and then head to Rome (June1st-June 4th). Return to Paris and come back to US on June 5th. I am 28 and my hubby is 31. Not a party type couple but we are ok with noise & busy streets. Thank you for your help.

Hotel College de France in the 5th. Heart of the Latin Quarter. Meets the criteria you mentioned. Great neighborhood.

Elaine, please be aware that May 27 and 28 are holidays this year (Whitsunday and Whitmonday or Pentecost). That means a long weekend and perhaps even more crowds than usual, lots of tour groups from European countries headed for Paris. As to hotel, I like to stay in the 7th, Grand Hotel Leveque (not really grand but a reasonably priced, small hotel) in rue Cler, a street where practically every house has a shop or store or restaurant of some kind. The shops will be open on Sunday mornings but not on Monday mornings, except for the restaurants. I don't know about the holiday hours, though. Convenient to metro and even more convenient to bus 69, which is like a sightseeing tour. It's probably high time you made a hotel reservation....

thank you all. Do you guys make reservation through their website or do you call the hotel? I read somewhere and it says we can call to negotiate the price (30% lower than the internet price) - it is true?.

Elaine, I almost always book directly with hotel thru their own websites( and they all have a littl icon (usaully a UK flag) to click on for english).. once in awhile I have used booking.com. I have never heard of negoitating for lower prices,, but usually on website they offer better rates for 3 or more nights, scroll down thru all options.

Elaine Have you already booked your flights? If not, it is more economical and saves time to fly open jaw (in one city Paris? and out another - Rome?) The back tracking to Paris costs you money to fly and you will lose a day to travel. If it is a little more expensive to fly open jaw, you will save money by not having to fly back to Paris. And the cost of getting back and forth to the airport in Paris. What a great One Year Anniversary trip! Bobbie

Hello Elaine. My name is Elaine also. My husband and I have stayed in the same hotel in Paris in 2009 and 2010. We stayed at the Le Littre Hotel, 6th arron. It is close to the Metro. The hotel made arrangements for a taxi to pick us up at the train station/airport and return us to the airport both times. This last time we booked a room that had a balcony and a complete view of the Eiffell Tower. It was wonderful to sit on the balcony and watch all the lights at night both of the city and of the EIffel.. We were there in May so it stayed light until 11:00 PM. We booked the rooms directly with the hotel. We could walk to the Metro, as it was very close by. We could also walk a short distance and get the Hop-on, Hop off bus. Elaine
