Good-bye Anthony Bourdain

Today we lost a luminary in the world of travel and I for one will sorely miss him. He was kind of a bad-ass Rick Steves, living fully Rick's mantra of "Travel as a Political Act."

Let's raise a toast to tonight to Tony Bourdain!

However, your thread's title is much more appropriate!

Completely STUNNED. He left an 11 year old daughter. Kate Spade's daughter is 13 years old. So utterly tragic & horrifying for these young girls.

Hey!!! I take exemption to that comment about titles. I even resemble it.

Anthony Bourdain was a big personality, big enough for 2 threads. Even though mine has a better title.

As to the children left behind, that's a real concern. In high school, I was a good friend to MS, and he was in a big family. His brother PS committed suicide - PS was 17, MS 20. MS told me that he thinks about PS every day. Suicide is final (non-religious statement that) for the suicide, but for the family, it's a conversation that was never completed, and that can really bother a person over the years.

Paul, as a person who has a grandfather and brother-in-law who committed suicide, I can attest to the truth of what you wrote here....

"Suicide is final (non-religious statement that) for the suicide, but for the family, it's a conversation that was never completed, and that can really bother a person over the years."

So true. I was 5 when my Grandpa killed himself. As the only grandchild at the time, I was very close to him and I loved him very, very much. I saw how that single act affected my grandmother, my uncle and my mother throughout their lives, and by extension, the rest of our whole family. He left loving letters to them all but gave them no reasons. Then all over again with my sister when my brother-in-law did the same, many years later. Besides the rest of my family, this time it also affected my own children and my husband, all of us loved him. I wish there were reasons, answers, solutions to this.....
