Is the only way to get a guaranteed tee time on the old course to book a three day $6k stayover in Scotland?

It's not guaranteed, but you have a pretty good chance (supposedly around 50-50) of getting a tee time via the "daily ballot."

Also not a guarantee, but you can just show up at the starter's hut early in the morning and possibly get added to another group. My dad has played the Old Course twice, both times by entering the daily ballot when they arrived in town. Be aware that you also must provide a card from your local pro testifying to your handicap.

You should show up at the starters hut by the first tee first thing in the morning and sign up. They will add you to another group. My husband has done this several times and we know other people who have done this and they never had any problem getting added to another group. Have a great time!!

Hi Linda - my husband too played the old course twice by showing up early in the morning. it was great! on Sunday we walked the course together and that was fun ~ lots of people walking
