After reading about all the lost luggage on Airitalia, I plan to take a rollaboard carryone.
I know this subject has been talked about at lenth. But, I really couldnt find an answer to this question.
In regards to Makeup. I know that all cream products must be contained in the bag. How about powder blush, and the powder eyeshadow? I tried the the tsa website, but couldnt find the answer. Also how about disposible razors? There is conflicting information regardng this.
Powder isn't liquid, so it doesn't go in the bag. An airport I traveled through this summer had a sign which said if you can pour it out (liquid), squeeze it out (gel) or spray it out (aerosol), it goes in the bag. Consensus of opinion on other posts says that disposable razors are OK.
Thanks for the info.
Surprised you carry this , unless it is special stuff.
There are many stores selling all manner of things (cosmetics included) in the cities of Every country in Europe.
Just as an addition to what Nancy posted above - disposable razors are NOT OK in the UK airports.
One more question - what about the solid creme cosmetics that come in a compact?
Yes, all these items are available for sale in other countries. But, I don't want to spend half a day finding all the things I need. I'll be flying into Heathrow next week and intend to take the disposable razor, small nail file, baby scissors, electric (battery-operated) toothbrush. I'm convinced that these things will pass security here in the US. When I depart Heathrow, if the metal stuff is not allowed, I will just chuck the whole lot. Well, maybe they will let me keep my toothbrush. I think the really strictest standards are found in the UK. I recently took a domestic flight within the US and packed the same as I would for an international flight. I think security standard are the same from the US wherever you are traveling. If I am wrong, I'd like to know before I take that flight to London.
I agree with Swan. I know I can get everything in Sicily when I get there, I just dont want to spend the time looking for them. I will try with the disposible razor, powder makeup and see what happens.
Chris, I'd call that a solid.
Swan - I took a battery operated Sonicare with me through Heathrow on 9/26 and had no problems. I had the standard stuff in the bag and wasn't hassled about anything. I did not try to take baby scissors or other metal items, but a friend took nail clippers without a problem.
I recently flew Alitalia and I had no problems.
I had powder cosmetics and tooth paste and they are not considered liquid, but mascare has to go in the bag.
I personally preffer to carry my own cosmetics that I know I like. I can't imagine going around in Europe or other places looking for them. besides that they are more expensive in Europe. I bought (in the US) for this trip a few travel size cosmetics from Sephora.
They are very cool, maybe a bit pricy, but they are of very good quality.
Alitalia.com has a large list of prohibited items.
I had a disposible razor in my carry-on when I flew Continental, ans I think you should be OK, at least when you leave US.
OK, I just have to comment. I'm taking carry on for the first time to Europe. We (hubby and I) always take our bike for a trip, so we check all our bags (bike cases and one carry on size luggage piece) We carry on only a daypack with stuff we need, books, ipod, etc for the plane.
This trip, I'm going with my daughter and we are taking carry on size hiking day packs. I'm NOT taking any cosmetics. I just decided that after getting off my plane from Chicago a few hours ago.
I'm on vacation, so my face will have a vacation from make up. it's not a big deal for me, since I only wear blush and mascara. I just looked at my zip lock, and I'll take shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste (2 small ones for the week) face lotion and a small body lotion.
All this being said - you can take powdered stuff with no issues...if it's ooey or gooey or leaks it goes in the bag. disposable razors are OK, and if they take it away, just buy some there!
