Going dark for a bit...

Ciao Tutti!
We are in the process of returning to the U.S. after 4 1/2 years in Roma. I expect to be less active on the Forum for awhile as we travel home to Oregon and get settled. It's been a marvelous ride and I am already planning an extended trip to Europe in late 2017, but reality has hit and it is time to live in the U.S. again and accept grown up responsibilities, like buying a house. "See" you all later!

Welcome back Laurel. I'm sure once you're settled you'll still have tons of good information on Rome and the rest of Italy to share with us here. Maybe when you're back in Portland you can help us get a RS travel group going in the Portland area (or maybe somewhere on the I5 corridor through the valley).

Laurel,

By the time you read this, you will no doubt be back in the U.S. and adjusting from jet lag. I'll look forward to hearing your comments once you get settled, and have had a chance to get used to clothes dryers, good electrical service and ethnic foods. Enjoy your breakfast at Denny's!

Laurel, you will be closer, and still traveling, but I am sad to not have your on-the-ground advice all year round.

Baci a Ric and hugs to my snuggle-buddy Jane.

Laurel

I too felt your contributions to Rome and Italy questions were invaluable to all us Forum members and I echo Nancy's suggestion for a meet up group in Portland or I5 corridor. We could do what NW people do in the Fall/Winter - grab a favorite late' and gab. Welcome home to the great Northwest.

Welcome back to the Left Coast as some of our European visitors have called it. Big hugs as you begin this huge transition!

I am sure this was a difficult decision for you and your family to make but welcome "home". I for one will miss all your "on the ground" advice and information for Rome and Italy plus although I am also certain you will still be able to offer your expertise when needed and requested. Thank you for all your previous contributions and looking forward to more as you all get settled in your new home.

Best wishes to you as you make this transition! You've contributed so much here, and I know you'll continue to do so. Enjoy Oregon!

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your kind wishes. I blush at the compliments!

We are over jetlag, Janie (the cat) is fine, and we are working through our shock at the volume of traffic and cost of food. We miss many things about Italy already (coffee!!!) although we finally found a good cappuccino today. It's great to be back with friends and family, though. Househunting and car shopping are underway.

We will always travel to Italy. The plan is annually so the sooner we get in a house the sooner we can start planning a trip., Maybe fall of 2017!

And a Portland-Area travel group (North Willamette Valley?) would be fun. Nancy, Linda, Nancy, and imperatrice, let's work on that in January!

Glad you are back, Laurel, and that your kitty made the trip well too. Good luck finding your home and settling in!
