Globus Travel Southern Italy Tour

It is very difficult for men to recommend Globus Travel to anyone. We booked a Southern Italy Tour trip last year but we decided to cancel as the war just broke out and we did not feel it was a good time to travel. We paid for the trip up front and insured the trip with Globus Travel Insurance partner AON Affinity Travel Services. When we cancelled the trip we called Globus and they said that they do not do refunds and that we had to call AON Affinity even though we paid Globus Travel. AON Affinity is probably the worst insurance company you can use. Never use AON Affinity travel services, they are dishonest, and will cheat you out of your money if you ever have to cancel a trip. Globus Travel should be ashamed to use them as a business partner.
During the past year My wife was diagnosed with Aphasia and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). These diseases affect speech, motor skills, eye function, and dizziness. Both are very progressive in nature. With that said, her doctors said she is no longer able to travel. AON sent a form requesting the Cleveland Clinic doctor complete stating his diagnosis and that she can no longer travel.. the form was completed and sent to AON AFFINITY. They immediately replied back stating that our request for refund was denied.
This is in violation of their own refund policy which states that you must be diagnosed and treated bu a physician for your illness.
If you ever decide to travel with Globus Travel (not recommended) stay away from AON Affinity Travel Services If you have to cancel your trip, you will never see a dime.

It's always important to read the terms and conditions BEFORE you book anything. If Globus bookings are nonrefundable, it would have been so stated.
I dont believe Italy is at war with anyone. If you are referring to the war in Ukraine, that has been going on since 2022; long before you made your booking. It does not affect travel in Italy. Your country does not have a level 4 travel warning on Italy, so you wouldn't have grounds to cancel for that reason. But I'm sure you are aware of that, and that is why you didn't attempt to claim for that reason.

When your claim based on medical conditions was denied, the insurer would have given a reason, was it because it fell within one of the exclusion categories? Again, it's always imperative to understand what is included and excluded, and the limits of any insurance policy before buying it.

Is there a consumer affairs agency you can report them to? Find out where their headquarters is located and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in that city. Have you asked to speak to a manager at Globus so you can file a complaint about how their insurance company is making them look bad? Have you refiled the claim-you already have all the info so maybe that wouldn't take too long? Health insurance companies routinely deny claims that they pay when resubmitted. It's just their shady way of doing business.

It sounds like you live in the US? IF so, file a claim/complaint with your state's Insurance Commissioner to see if you can get some satisfaction although if you accepted AON's refund terms previously they might not be able to do anything. Still, it's worth contacting them.

For what it's worth, I've done a bunch of tours with Road Scholar who uses AON as well and see many complaints about them on the Facebook pages related to Road Scholar. The tour companies are certainly aware of complaints against the insurer and choose to continue to do business with them so it's apparently favorable for them to do so.

In general I would not consider buying insurance from the company who is running the tour even though it's convenient.

I'm so very sorry about your wife's diagnoses as well.
