Have anyone heard or using this website? The concepts sound good but I'd like to hear more from real traveler experiences?
Thanks for the input!
I'm assuming there is a website called "Global Freeloaders"?
Not familliar. I'll check it out. Now see what you've gone and done? Now I'm curious!
Yes, the website is www.globalfreeloaders.com basically they provides worlwide list of free accomodation for traveler worldwide and in return they should do the same by willing to open your house for other travelers, and I believe the rules are only for traveler from different countries (international).
just check the website and let me know what you guys think??
I don't have any experience with it, but I just looked at the website. It LOOKS like a good idea. Maybe it's just the paranoia in me, but I wouldn't want to do it. While there are a ton of great travelers out there, there are a lot of predators as well. I would never consider doing this unless you had a (male) travel companion, and even then...It is too easy to lie over the internet and I wouldn't want to unknowingly put myself into a potentially dangerous situation in a country where I don't speak the native language. I have a cousin who studied abroad in Russia and ended up living in a brothel. The agency had no idea what was going on until she made it an issue. Now, if that can happen in a "monitored" situation... ??? To be fair, I studied abroad in Paris and lived with a wonderful hostess. Again, maybe I'm paranoid, but the internet can be dangerous. We all know victims. I wouldn't want to put myself at risk, even though I'm sure many people use the site and do so safely.
Haven't had a chance to look into it yet but will.
The first question I'd like answered will be if the applicants submit to any sort of voluntary records check? (Maybe I'll find the answer when I look into it further, DUH!)
Anyway, I'd be hopeful that this would be a requirement. Not that it is always a guarantee, but still not a bad idea.
It looks very similar to couchsurfing.com, which one of our roommates has participated in. No, there isn't any screening or background checks (on couchsurfing.com) but there are a lot of reviews from previous visitors listed for each accomodation so you get a feel for what it might be like. It's mostly geared towards the single, under-30 crowd - a lot of students letting you crash on their couch or spare bedroom. I think it's a great way to meet locals!
