Don't delay, effective Oct 1. 2024, the Global Entry fee is increasing to $120 from $100. Same for the other Trusted Travelers programs. All fees going up.
There are opportunities available to avoid this financial burden. For example some credit card offerings or companies reimburse global entry application and renewal processing fees.
This can hardly be justified on a service performance basis. It is still completely random whether an individual receives provisional approval promptly or sits in some unprocessed mass somewhere for months.
I have used the FREE Mobile Passport Control app and beaten my Global Entry friends through immigration on 4 of last 5 entries. Don’t waste your time and money on Global Entry.
Don’t waste your time and money on Global Entry.
Careful there, let all the masses pay for Global Entry for their one trip a year. While they are fumbling at the kiosks, the rest of us are getting through with little problem.
Honestly, it really depends on the airport you fly into and whether that is your final destination. If you fly into your final destination to one of the nightmare airports (lots of them) then Global entry might have appeal. But if you fly in, connect, especially into a better airport, and you check a bag, then that Global Entry gets you nothing.
I will say TSA Precheck is worth it if you fly 3-4 times a year (Don't have to remove shoes, take out your electronics and liquids}, let alone a separate line.
But coming back through the airports I do, I usually get through as fast, or sooner than the Global Entry people, or at least we are all waiting for our bags at the same time.
Good grief. For (now) $120 I get Global Entry and TSA Precheck on every flight for 5 years. And that's too expensive to be worthwhile?
If that is the case for anyone, they sure shouldn't get it. For me it's a bargain and will continue to be.
The good folks at Global Entry will soon be testing egates for members to use rather than having to talk to anyone or use a kiosk.
You use the Global Entry app while taxiing after landing, then proceed to the egates.
No passport. The egates will utilize facial recognition. Just like the kiosks do now.
Testing will begin at Dulles in a few months.
I re-entered US twice at LAX last year, and it was already facial recognition. Kiosk looked at your face, about 15 seconds later a CBP officer called out your name and said you're good to go. Total time, about 30 seconds.
With the new system, you bypass the officer.
Well, the free mobile passport option in Atlanta will get you in a long line. We randomly take the kiosks out. Apparently we want to make you understand that you really weren’t welcome back in the country
So for me, global entry is worth it, and I’m not going to depend on the randomly working free kiosk system
Oh, and if you’re flying to Atlanta, bring your Global Entry card. Because if we decide not to keep those kiosks up and running and you don’t have your card, you will have to stand in the long line. If you have a card, the line monitor will grudgingly let you in the global entry line. (Bless his heart, he was devastated to let somebody cut his long line.)
At JFK terminal 8, one officer processes both Global Entry and Mobile Passport.
The Global Entry people were given priority. The person monitoring the situation kept saying: "Global before Mobile."
Every airport is different.
i am baffled by the number of posts that have turned into competitions lately. No two folks are the same. What works for one for comfort or ease or peace of mind, doesnt need to apply to you.
Thanks for the "heads up"
