Global Entry

After 1 year & 17 days from submitting and paying for the renewal of my Global Entry, it was finally approved. The nice thing is even though it expired in March 2023, I was still able to utilize it for my travels. Nothing like coming into LAX or SFO and only have 1 - 5 people ahead of you when processing through Passport Control.

Safe Travels & Happy Holidays.

Well then I feel lucky. Just under 7 months to get my Nexus renewed, didn’t need an in-person meeting. However it’s been 2 months and still haven’t received my new card.

I believe that I went through in Boston. There was no one ahead of me. I looked in a computer and that's all there was. Real nice.

I am at 11 months since applying for renewal. But they still honored my GE after it's official expiration when I traveled to Europe three times this summer and fall. I am hoping that I will get approval in the next two months.

I really like GE but it's kinda creepy, you don't even have to get very close to a terminal and it's already read your face and decided if you're friend or foe.

It also seems to have eliminated going through customs (Anything to Declare?) so there goes whatever revenue that used to generate.

I’m very surprised by this thread. I got my (2nd) renewal approval in less than a week with no interview this time. Card arrived a couple of weeks later. Was I just lucky?

Yes, SusanM, you were lucky.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason how they process applications.

Your government in action.

Ouch! My experience was similar to SusanM's. Well... double. But I had no complaints about a two-week turnaround. I had no idea people were experiencing such delays on renewals. Yet another aspect of travel calling for patience, I guess.

My experience was the same as Susan, just a few days. I did mine in late August. My husband did his at the end of Sept and also had his renewal approved within days.

My first renewal took only a few days, but my latest renewal took 1 year and 18 days for approval!!!

My husband had to add a stop at Chicago to get his interview for his 2nd renewal-no appts available at the airports he normally uses. What is the chance that a Senior Citizen who has had Global Entry for 10 years and not blown up anything yet, is going to go rogue in the next 5 years? The US govt's idea of security lacks even the slightest hint of intelligence or common sense.

The randomness is either the nature of bureaucracy or a clever strategy at keeping things unsettled, your choice

No one knows how CBP decides which applications to do first.

No one knows how they choose who gets an interview and who doesn't. (Perhaps its like TSA and some are just chosen at random.)

And I doubt they are going to share any of this with us.

Just to add, my renewal took a week. No interview. That's the way I like it, I had forgotten how finicky the website is. It's very much a green light/red light kind of system, you keep bouncing back and forth between screens you think you've completed. Don't do what's logical, do what they tell you.

I'm still waiting over six months. I have to wonder now if they prioritize expiration dates.

I applied last July but my expiration isn't until June.
