Glasses Holder/Clip:

Hi Everyone,

I wear glasses (not contacts) and when I'm in and out off shops/churches, etc. frequently when traveling, I end up taking on/off my glasses and prescription sunglasses repeatedly. I usually just toss them in the v-neck of my shirt, but I don't always feel like that's secure and it often gets stuck in my strap if I'm wearing my camera bag across my body.

Have anyone tried something like the ReadeRest magnetic clips (of course, I can't get the link to paste. Off-topic: this happens to me on my IPad every once in a while - am I the only one?).

Or, is there something that I can clip to my camera bag that I can hang my glasses/sunglasses off of?

Thanks in advance. :)

My sister uses that magnetic eye glass holder all the time and swears by it. I don't wear glasses yet so no personal experience.

Thanks for the link, Dave. I had never seen this item. At no point on that website does it show the it in use. It just shows a lot of different versions of the same thing, but not where you'd put it. I had to go to Amazon to see how it works. Good item, I think. Terrible website.

This is another way to go - there are several different styles of 'clipable' cases out there; this is just one type. Some are soft-sided, some are hard. You can find tons online, or basic models at Target/Walmart/drugstore/optometrist's office, etc.

I also have a couple different versions of the ReadeRest, and they work fine unless I'm wearing a thin fabric. In this case, the holder can get pretty floppy...and pull my shirt down or open farther than I want it to 8^O

This page has a smorgasbord of types of holders - necklaces, pins, cases, etc. I prefer the around-the-neck style with the rubber ends that slide over the ends of the earpiece and are tightened (called 'eyeglass chains' on this website). This way, I can just take them off my face and drop them. BUT - when I stopped wearing my sunglasses like this at home after many months, I nearly dropped my glasses on the floor way.too.many.times. Scary. No back-up net anymore! So you've been warned ;-)

You can find any of these styles in ALL price ranges. If you go with the necklace type check out Etsy. Very unique, and very inexpensive.

I, too, hate that off-and-on, back-and-forth, with the eyeglasses! You might want to consider a combo of, say, a magnetic clip AND and clip-on case. The case could serve as your regular eyeglass case while traveling, and the clip-on (or one of the necklace styles) would be an inexpensive and lightweight extra.

OH - Gretchen: I, too, have trouble with pasting links from my iPad! Really.ticks.me.off. Really. But not today - yea!

Gail? Shut up. Just hush.

Excuse me Eileen, not sure what I said to so much offend you but it is not appropriate to tell me or anyone to shut up or hush up!!!

Forgive Eileen. She's just making a funny. Pointing out that you are younger, and she is as old as Texas dirt. ;)

My glasses are on my nose, or my head, or my shirt. The irritating part is having to wear them at all. It's especially bad when shopping. I don't need them to see 6 feet away, but back on they go to look closer. Then back off. On. Off. Or I get a headache from moving my head up and down to look over them. And why do I need them to see colors now? That's just ridiculous.

and we all know that Texas dirt is old - real old.

No wonder she doesn't like young whippersnappers showing her up...... Plate of sliced beef and cold one for the former Lone Star State gal.

Thanks for the links and info, guys. It doesn't bother me so much for day-to-day wear, but on vacation, when I'm in and out of one store, then the next and next, I go crazy. :)

I, too, add my vote for ReadeRest. I have several of these clips and they work well. I usually try to keep one attached to shirt/jacket and one attached to the outside of my purse/bag/daypack. I always take several pairs of readers with me, in case of breakage or loss. Nothing is worse than losing your readers, been there done that. Yes, they can be replaced. However, it can be really inconvenient if you are in a remote location or all the stores have closed for the night.

Never heard of these magnetic clips - will check. I use the cord around my neck with the rubber ends that hook the glasses. So much better than just having to hold the glasses while taking on and off. I did buy a very pretty bag once in Sweden with the cord around the neck and the glasses just slipped into it, but prefer the cord.

Gail, I'm sorry you were offended; that was definitely not my intention! 8^D = Big Smile = Joking! Just hush may be an idiom 'too Southern'; I realize all Americans don't necessarily speak the same language. And I would NEVER SEROUSLY tell someone to shut up on this forum. Nigel is right - I was just referring to your young whippersnapper status - or at least that of your eyes ;-) Please forgive me.

Nigel, I can always use a plate of brisket and a cold one ;-)

I'm with Karen - that hawk-like bobbing of the head, up and down, that one has to do with progressive lenses or to look over your single-vision lenses...ugh. BIG ugh. Gives me a neck ache. So mine reside in my purse - alongside the other two pair I must carry around with me at all times. I see So Well with them in their case :-/ At least I can still see colors correctly...I think...Perhaps I'm Karen's young whippersnapper LOL.

Gretchen, especially while traveling when it is much more easy to become distracted, you may need to try a few of these 'gizmos' out to see which one is more intuitive for you so that you don't leave your glasses behind somewhere :-( I prefer different types of holders for different types of activities. One that works well with t-shirts won't work as well with sweaters or jackets, or with purse shoulder straps/crossbody bag straps, or if I'm trying to use only one hand (don't tell!), etc. They don't have to be expensive, either, although you can pay all sorts of prices.

Just thought of something - when wearing the ReadeRest-style holders and bending over, I've had my glasses fall out of the holder a few times. The magnetic style with the 'free-swinging' loop didn't have that problem. The earpiece seemed to stay closed better with that style. With the ReadeRest style if I lean over, the lenses swing out, but the earpiece stays flat against my chest...then they just slide out of the little 'hook'. Clear as mud, I'm sure ;-) but hopefully you can picture what I'm saying!

(and FWIW, my iPad 'link pasting' has improved...so far...)

Wow! All that bobbing and weaving and on and off sounds like a real pain. It makes me thankful that I have to wear glasses all the time.

I also feel lucky that I've had to wear progressive lenses for years, and that I am very accustomed to them. I love transitions becauses I no longer have to carry prescription sunglasses and switch back and forth.

I wear one pair of glasses and take a 2nd pair for backup on our trips. Period. That's so much easier that what has been described.
