Glad I Did Not Cancel

I posted in November, shortly after losing my job, asking for input if I should cancel the trip I had booked with Rick for 09. Everyone said to hang in and, I did. Just got a job offer today so I'm feeling like a normal person again. It is only 30 hours a week but should be full time in April or May. Still looks like I will get to make my Sept trip for 18 days even with the new job. Have seen several posts of people trying to decide to go or not to go. I, as well as most of you, say GO! Things do work out and if travel is what you enjoy, just do it. The $ look much better vs € so just travel and enjoy.

Congrats Tony, on the job and being able to take your trip. It's tough out there right now. I'm hoping against all hope to be able to go back to Italy this fall, but the only job I could get pays barely enough to cover my expenses, so I hear ya. Glad you didn't cancel and that you will be able to go!

Hi Tony,
I was one of the ones that said DON'T cancel your trip. I'm glad to hear you have a job and they are willing to let you take the time off for your trip. Congratulations.
One just never knows how your health will be "later" so go and travel and enjoy while you can. Now my husband has retired we just need to "find the money" to make another trip to England so we can spend more time there along with Wales and getting to Scotland. Hum, the lottery? one million in one or so chances to win. I guess I could spend that $1.00 on a ticket and not towards a Starbucks drink. Again glad to hear things are working out for you.

A New job working 30 hours a week? Thats great news. That means you can spend more time on this site over the next few months to get prepped for your Trip. Congrats !

Tony,

Glad to hear that the job situation has improved for you. It's great that your new employers will give you the time-off for your trip.

Working 30 hours a week is not much less than some European countries (France, for example), who have a legislated 35-hour work week. I'm assuming "full time" in your new job will be 40-hours?

Time to get the luggage out of the closet and start thinking about what you'll be packing!

Cheers!

Tony, Good on you! 30 hours to start is perfect, you'll have more time to tell us about your tour! It's nice to hear about good things happening.

Ken, think I will ask my new employer if I can go on the French system. Sounds good to me. Noon till 5pm are my hours which I really like as I can fish or golf in the am and still be at work by noon. Where was this job all my life? HA!
I spend several hours a week on this site looking at many of the post, just for info. Lots of good info here and most appreciated is the info given out by all you regulars. Think I have posted about 40 odd times and I see many that are over 1500.

Congratulations, Tony, I'm very glad that it's working out for you.

I can definitely relate to your experience. I got laid off last May, and my wife and I had a 2-week Italy trip scheduled for July. I received a good severance payment which helped sway me towards keeping the trip, and I'm so glad that I did. (Plus the fact that we had to use the flight voucher by October or we'd lose it). It was probably the best trip of our lives. I interviewed with a company two days after our return, and I've been working there ever since.

Tony, I am another who said don't cancel!! I am glad it is working out for you. I found out right before our trip that my ex-husband (kid's dad) was getting laid-off and then found out afterwards that I might get laid-off, too. I am still glad we went! No-one can take memories from you!

That's great, Tony. Luckily the job market here isn't as bad as other areas of the country... It's so weird because we're also going to Europe (Ireland, N Ireland and Scotland) for 18 days in September (out of Nashville). Where are you going again?

Wonderful news Tony!
It's very hard to find a job nowadays.
People are getting laid off every day.

Here is my new philosophy have recently been laid off from the banking industry: you can save and save your money in your 401K and watch it disappear as the stock market drops or you can take some of that money you would have normally saved and use it to create a memory.

My husband and I have decided to create a memory so we are leaving March 6th on the Venice, Florence and Rome tour.... I figure out the job situation when I get back.

Thanks everyone for all the POSITIVES. I know there are lots of others out there going thru what I went thru but it does work out. As everyone told me, don't put your travel plans on hold if there is anyway to still do it. Just knowing I was still going to try to go and doing the planning helped me get thru the 3 months. Thought about depression but decided travel would be lots more fun. Thanks again to this positive helpline.
