So, we are going to both but I'm wondering if I need to adjust my number of days. We have 2 nights planned for the Dolomites and 4 nights planned for Gimmelwald. We plan some light hiking and just site seeing/relaxing. Would you suggest 3 and 3 or keep it same?

Have been to both Gimmelwald, and Castelrotto in the Dolomites. Both very beautiful but the hiking in Gimmelwald starts right at your doorstep while some travel is required in the Dolomites. Keep things just the way you have it.

I would do 3 and 3, and I would try to stay in the Dolomies, in one of the valleys like Ala Badia rather than Castelrotto (which is a charming town but it is not IN the Dolomites. I love the scenery and hiking around Gimmelwald/Muerren, but the Dolomites are just as beautiful. and depending where you are staying in Gimmelwald, you could get pretty tired of the food by Day 3. the food in the Dolomites is wonderful and highly varied. more Tirolian than Italian, but produced with Italian flair.
