Gifts to bring to hosts

We'll be staying with 2 different couples in Spain - all teachers who will be hosting us 4 and 5 nights respectively. We're taking carry-ons for 4 weeks. Any ideas for gifts? One idea we had was a 2009 Steamboat Springs calendar - light and flat!

Your calendar idea sounds like a good one. Here are some ideas from treads where this was discussed previously:

We're leaving for Ireland in a few days and we just went by the campaign headquarters for our favorite presidential candidate and bought some campaign buttons to take.

I have family in Northern Italy; A small village in Modena. On one visit I brought the true "American" gift. A variety of baseballs gloves, balls, and hats from my home team. They were the talk of their community. We even had a make-shift game with their friends.

Maybe it's different in the Baltic countries, but in Latvia, they don't know chocolate chip cookies!! When my son and his wife go to Latvia in the summers, they often bring chocolate chip cookies! I've been to bakeries in Europe, but didn't notice if they had chocolate cookies or not. I'll have to look when I go this fall to Italy. My son's in laws love the cookies!

Maple Sugar candies, I remember those! Great gift from Canada! By the way, there is a famous singer in Toronto, Sylvia Tyson! Maybe you can bring some of her CD's as a gift from Canada! LOL!

Deb: Brilliant idea! I am sure your hosts will love the calendar from Steamboat Springs. I usually take "Maryland" items: mugs, lapel pins of my state, anything Crabs... I am always dragging "Old Bay" to my relations in Ireland. Have a good time on your trip!
