What rules apply if any for bringing jewelry valued at $600.00 to Italy

If you are taking gifts there is no rule. Merchandise for eventual sale is different. And how would anyone know what jewelry you are bringing into Italy? You pack your suitcase and you go! Screeners are looking for banned items and substances, not checking to see what else you're bringing with you.
