I'm taking my dad (63 years old) to Hong Kong for a week in March. It'll be his first international trip so I'm hoping to get him a Christmas gift that will be usefull on this trip. Hoping to keep it in the ball park of $50. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
Packing cubes? They are great organizational tools. A tour book and/or a city map of Hong Kong? What a wonderful gift you are giving him already, Jeremy. This will be the trip of a lifetime for both of you.
I'm taking my mom on her first international trip this summer. So for Christmas I have bought a neck pillow, tsa approved lock and a passport cover.
Wendy stole my idea--the neck pillow! I suggest an inflatable one.
If your father would be inclined to take a lot of photos, perhaps a suitable piece of gear to get them off his camera or phone so the memory doesn't fill up before the end of the trip.
And of course there's the obvious suggestion of a guide book to HK, or perhaps a work of fiction or non-fiction that would pique his interest in the area. Ask a librarian for suggestions.
I think a book about the destination.. my parents travel a bit and my dad likes to read a historical book about the area before they go. :)
Here are two book suggestions that can give your dad a better feel for Chinese history/culture: (1) Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng and (2) The Good Earth by Pearl Buck.
Hello Jeremy. Eye shades. A small pouch for coins. Hidden Wallet (a Passport can be put in it). I think those items are for sale at Travel Store at this website.
Hi there, that is good, but you should gift him a thing which he remembers till last.
