Gettting from Belgium to Linz Austria

We are planning a trip in mid June to retrace my fathers footsteps during WW2. We will be there 9 nights. We plan to spend time in Southern Belgium as he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. I have done some research on near-by museums etc. but any suggestions on that area are welcome ( We plan to spend a couple of nights in Bastogne) . The tricky part is trying to get to Linz, Austria expeditiously . His unit ended the war in that area and if possible I would like to visit that area on this trip. Thus far the only trains I find are 9 to ten hours of travel time from Belgium. Flights take 3 to 4 hours not to mention time getting to the airport and waiting on the flight etc. I am looking for suggestions on how to travel there. I want to visit Linz but don't want to spend one of my few days over there in transit. I have looked into 4 day river cruises that go to Linz but there are few and they don't seem to coincide with my travel dates. Any idea , thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

There is a twice weekly overnight train from Brussels to Vienna that stops in Linz on the way. Apart from Brussels, it also stops in Liège in Belgium.

Unfortunately you've picked two places that are simply a long distance apart. There aren't any direct flights from Linz Airport to anywhere in Belgium or Luxembourg - the best you'll get, it looks like, would be Luxembourg-Munich, Brussels-Munich, or Brussels-Vienna, all of which will involve a significant train journey at both ends.

Is there anywhere in Germnay you might be interested in stopping at in between?

Ive spent time in Munich and on this trip i;m not particularly interested in spending time in Germany but i agree it would make sense to do so to break up the trip. Thank you for your reply
