Getting from the center of Paris to Orly by 5:30am

We will be catching a flight from Orly to Rome that leaves at 7am. This would mean about a 4:45am pick up. What would be the most reliable way to make the flight. I was thinking of booking a shuttle, or would a cab be better?

Now we also have to worry about ash disrupting our flights altogether....they said this might last for months!!

Others will probably disagree, but I've heard too many people say the shuttle was late, did not show up, etc.

I'd go for the cab, but have your hotel set it up for you. I speak fluent, unaccented, idiomatic French. A few years back I set up a taxi for the folks I was traveling with. I had no doubt it was a done deal. It never showed up. I have no idea why.

I agree with Ed....that'd be way too close for comfort for me at that hour of the morning. One slip, and you're going to miss your flight. I'd spend the night at an Orly airport hotel, perhaps the Ibis, where you can walk to the terminal, if necessary. Rates are from about 60 euro per night.

We seriously considered the airport hotel for the night before, but we are renting an apartment in Paris, so all is booked and paid for at this point. I am assuming there is no public transportation at that time of day.

I had a feeling that we were leaving too much to chance by arranging for a shuttle. Maybe I can contact the rental agency and see if they can arrange something.

Thanks for the input-

Frankly, I'd eat the cost of the last night in the apartment for the hotel at the airport. Think of it as insurance so that you won't miss your flight.
