Getting around Como/Back to Malapensa Airport in Milan

First let me start off by thanking everyone who has responded back. The information I received was incredible. So I thank you all. I do have a couple of questions. When one arrives in Milan (MXP) airport is mass transit (train) or bus available to go to the center of town in Milan ? Or is it better to just take a cab ? I will be visiting in the summer. I will be staying in the center of town at Hotel Spadari which is near the Duomo. Also I know I can take a train to Como from Milan and was wondering once I'm in Como should I rent a car ? Is it really easy to get around ? Also is it possible to take a train or bus back to Malapensa (MXP) airport from Como since I have a early departure back @ 10:30am ? If so how do you do it ? Again, any help is great..thanks.

Manny, There are excellent transportation options available at MXP. Here's a short summary.... > Train Option 1 - there's a Trenitalia station at Terminal 1, which will get you to Milano Centrale. From here you could take the Metro to the Duomo station, which is close to your Hotel (Line M3, direction S. Donato, 4th stop). > Train Option 2 - You could also take the Malpensa Express which is operated by TreNord. This will take you to Milano N.Cadorna station, which is the closest station to the Duomo. Current fare is €11 PP one way. If you have lots of luggage, I'd suggest a Taxi to your Hotel when you arrive at Cadorna. > Bus - you could also take the Malpensa Shuttle from the airport to Milano Centrale. Passengers disembark at the side of the station, and then have to walk around the corner and upstairs to track level. You could also take the Metro from here to the Duomo station (same directions as above - stay at ground level to reach the Metro - walk inside and to the left as I recall - use the automated ticket Kiosks, so you'll need a Euro cash). As I said in another reply, I wouldn't suggest renting a car for the places you'll be going. Have you decided yet which town you'll stay on Lago di Como??? YES, you can absolutely take a train from Milan to Como, either via Trenitalia or TreNord rail lines. As I reacall, Trenitalia stops at Como S. Giovanni whie TreNord stops at Como Nord Lago. Which line to take will depend to some extent on where you're going in Como? It's possible to get back to the airport in time for a 10:30 flight, but it will mean an early start. You could take a departure from Como N. Lago at 06:36, arriving MXP at 07:34 (time 0H:58M, 1 change at Saronno). Cheers!
