Hello, fellow travelers, does anyone have experience with Getmyguide local tours? Sounds practical and cost-effective and the reviews are excellent, but would like to hear from someone who has booked with them.
Thanks in advance,
Martie from Texas
Hi Martie, do you mean Get Your Guide? It’s a company that offers tour in many cities around the world. I’ve used them several times. Where are you going?
I thought Get Your Guide was a listing service for local guides, not a company on its own.
Sasha, you’re right. It’s similar to Viator as a middleman service.
They do charge the tour companies a hefty 25% commission, so if you can book directly with a tour, this is better. If a company is listed on GYG, they will also be on Trip Advisor and Viator. Any tour can list on Trip Advisor for free, but Viator charges about 22-25% commission to list your tour with them.
You all are absolutely correct. The OP was looking for “my” guide. I didn’t see any listing for them so I thought perhaps she meant “your” guide.
I do as Ms Jo suggests and try to track down and book with the original company. It’s usually not too hard to do it.

Better for who? I never understand this comment and it has been made many times on other posts about using 3rd party tour sites. The only benefactor is the operator who profits on avoiding the 25% commission. The consumer (traveler) gains no advantage by booking direct and runs the risk, as has been noted on many posts, when operators refuse to return people their money when the operator cancelled a tour.
I looked at a tour and checked the prices for the same exact tour on Viator, Get Your Guide and the operator's website.
Viator listed the cost as $163.65
Get Your Guide listed the cost as $160.47
The operator listed the price in Euro and the conversion was $161.37
I think there is some cases where perhaps a tour operator may offer a discount, but their own website doesn't indicate one. We all seem to trust Booking.com and Rick Steves who are 3rd parties, but we are so quick to bash other 3rd party sites. Granted some are riskier and lesser known than others, but not sure why many people keep condemning some of these 3rd parties as evil when these operators VOLUNTARILY sign up on them to increase their business by having a wider presentation of their services to the traveling public. 75% of a fare is better than an empty seat with zero revenue.
I always try to book directly with a tour company, but occasionally use Viator.com.
Recently, I booked a tour with Getmyguide. I have never found a significant price difference between the tour company, Viator or Getmyguide.
Sometimes the internet search just doesn't come up with the local tour company.
It is reliable. The rest of the answers relate to whether you should use it or not.
I personally do a mixture. I like booking direct, but a company then must have an online presence and booking capability, which not all do. Also, as you decide, look at cancellation policies. Most of the time it will be the same across platforms. However I accidentally booked direct recently - and there is a “no refund” at all policy I missed! On GYG and Viator, you could cancel a few days prior for a full refund.
That is exactly what I do. If the company website does not have a refund policy only a credit or no refund I book with Get Your Guide. I have had to cancel before and that comes in handy.
