Just wanted to check in on Rick Steves OP's from Germany and Austria. Here in the State of Baden-Württemberg, Neckar River went over it's banks last night, swept a couple people away. Lucky we live up on a small hill here. Looking at the TV, I see the towns of Passau and Rosenheim are really getting flooded. Chancellor Merkel to visit here tomorrow and more troops on the way to help.
Just keeps raining so hard, in wave after wave, light then heavy downpours. Hope everybody's O.K.
Thanks for posting more information. Always good to have first hand information about catastrophes like this. People have their trips planned, train tickets purchased and now they need to re-think their whole vacation. Wish there was a way to combine all 6 threads that are now posting flood info. 1 is under Transportation, 4 are under To the West and now this one.
The rain is officially over and the next week has temps predicted in the 70s. Summer may have actually arrived in Southern Germany! Just in time for me to go to the U.S. for a month.
I have certainly never seen the Danube this high before. That said, Vienna itself is fine. Unseasonably cold. Am again wearing the trusty trenchcoat to work. But, as Sarah said, temps are supposed to start climbing beginning tomorrow.
