General Uber Question...

I'm heading to Copenhagen in about a week and want to use Uber to get to and from the airport.
Do I need to do anything differently than what I do here at home in the US when I want a car?
Just open the app and use it as normal?
I seems completely magical to me that the app knows what to do, even in a different country.
Just want a little reassurance I guess.
Thanks!

I used Uber several times in France this summer and, yes, you use the app just like you're at home. The one thing I did was change my credit card to one that doesn't charge a foreign currency conversion fee. I think it's magical, too😊.

Just note that the one difference may be that your charge for using data while roaming may be higher while abroad, depending on what plan you use.

But yes, Uber works just the same and will charge to your credit card back home.

The court in Copenhagen recently convicted several Uber drivers of illegal taxi operations. You need a Commercial License to drive a taxi in Denmark, which Uber drivers don't have, essentially making Uber illegal in Denmark.

It isn't so magical when the wand breaks or sends out sparks backwards.

We were in Copenhagen this past summer and had issues getting an Uber vehicle at the airport. We ended up taking a cab instead. You may also want to look into a metro pass.

"...essentially making Uber illegal in Denmark." Good, and Uber is illegal in Germany.

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful, humorous, and helpful responses!
Morten - I didn't realize that Uber was not legal in Copenhagen. I will definitely be using taxis then. I appreciate the information! Uber's website makes it looks as if all is well...

Well Anita Uber is not illegal itself, but operating a taxi without the proper license is. It's the drivers that have been prosecuted, not Uber itself, but it is part of a larger legal battle that Uber are trying to stall.

Uber claim their are a rideshare website and therefore don't have to live up to the regulations (safety, labour, etc) that taxi companies do. But the court verdict showed that the drivers themself said they did it for the money and Ubers surge pricing mechanism etc. does not exactly indicate that the drivers are merely picking up strangers who happen to be going the same place that they are.

Also if you have to get from the Airport to the city centre, I suggest you take the Metro. It's 36kr and takes about 20 minutes. Faster and cheaper than any taxi or Uber. Use www.rejseplanen.dk as a trip planner for all public transport in Denmark

Ah got it!
The main reason I was going to use Uber is that I'm traveling alone and it seemed the easiest way to get to the city center with the least amount of hassle.
May I will try the metro! I'll try the planner and see if I can figure out how to get to where I need to be in Indre By. Coming off of a long flight I'm hoping my brain will function well enough.
Thank you!

If you've been travelling on an international flight, and if you have luggage to manage, you should probably take a taxi.
Just follow the overhead signs in the airport and get in line.
Hand the driver the complete printed address of where you want to go, relax and enjoy the ride.
Perhaps you might think about taking the Metro when you depart, though.

I think the hassle-free way to get from an airport into the city is going right to the taxi stand. That's why those guys are standing there. And because it's highly regulated in Europe, chances you are ripped off are near zero. It's not cheap though but service has its price.
