General travel

Im looking for the perfect shoes for doing lots of travel, carrying a small back pack, and all kinds of terrain and weather. Anyone found the perfect shoe?

No such thing, I'm afraid. There is no one shoe that is best for all terrains and weather.

Every foot is different so just get an gd quality orthotic insert(avail at sporting goods stores) that works for you. it will give you comfort & support and stop any blisters and foot fatigue. For some these inserts in a trainer/running type shoe is the best.

You might try clicking on the "Graffiti Wall" on this site. There is a section about shoes which has lots of responses that might be useful to you. For what it's worth, my husband, who has particular feet, favors Rockport "World Tour" style.

I've tried a couple of different types of shoes for travel, and the best model that I've found so far is the ECCO Trac II Goretex. I've found them to be comfortable and durable (so far) and when my current pair are worn out, I plan to buy another of the same kind. Good luck with your search.

Found the perfect brand....for my feet. Keen. Own 5 pairs. One pair of sandals and one pair of of their Shelby Slip on have enjoyed the sites and countrysides of Europe. Check the Keens out as you research the perfect shoe...for your feet.

I am with ken. The ECCO with the lugged sole is the perfect shoe for me.It is the only shoe I take along with interchangeable inner soles which I change daily to keep the shoe dry and comfortable.

Ken, I am with a couple of other posters on this one. I am leaving in early October for Spain with only one pair of shoes - Ecco's with lugged soles. I have made four previous trips to Europe with these as the only shoes I've brought along. Very, very comfortable!

I was using a black New Balance model ( No Whites for me ) which was very comfortable . Needing a new pair for my upcoming trip , my brother recommended Merrels . I tried them , loved them , broke them in ( they really didn't need real breaking in ) and will use them starting next week in Italy and Switzerland (including the Oberland ). The model is J87577 Moab Sport Gore Tex XCR waterproof (stays dry in a medium rain ,not for plunging ankle deep in a deep puddle ) and a 5mm vibram sole that gives great traction on any surface ( think slippery pavement ) . Don't let the agressive tread fool you you ,they are like walking on air . Available in wide width and a corresponding women's model as well . Best shoe I have ever worn !
