Gatwick Lay-over

On the return trip, I will be laying over at Gatwick from around 6-7pm local time to around 11 the next day. What would be suggested motels in the immediate area?

Note that price is a critical factor. Secure, good food nearby, and a shuttle or transportation to/from the airport are also important.

I don't plan on doing any sightseeing or anything like that during the lay-over. Just eat, sleep, and get ready for the final flight home.

I've looked at some of the advertisements, but would like input from people who stayed there.

What about the Holiday Inn LGW? They have a shuttle. I don't know about cost though. It isn't too bad. My Airline has been putting us up there for years.

You could also join "Priority Club" for added perks. Call 1800HOLIDAY for details.

Hi Bob, Yes, there's a bus picks up at the Premier Inn, I don't know eaxctly how often but it's pretty frequent, and I think it cost about £2. It's on their website. I don't know what the food is like there, although I do know there is a restaurant. If you get stuck finding the website let me know and i'll get it for you.

Hi Bob, Premier Travel Inn is a 5 minute walk from the North terminal at Gatwick (and there's a good internal transfer system if you need to get to the south terminal). I've stayed there several times (altho not in the last 18 months) and it's fine. And despite the fact that you can see the terminal from the window, I didn't hear noise from the planes.

You could also catch the train - there is a station at the terminal, and arrive Victoria Station. From there it is a SHORT walk to one of Rick's London favorites - the Lime Tree B&B. NICE restaraunt next door for dinner, and they serve an awesome breakfast as well. Trains from Victoria back to Gatwick every half hour. Go for it!

I appreciate the tips.

I'll also be carrying 4 pieces of luggage that are rather heavy (and I walk with a cane) so walking any distance is out.

(Note: I'm going to Europe "on business"- NOT on vacation, and I have a number of heavy items that I have to take. The bags will all be under the limits, however. So please no lectures about packing light- I don't have that choice.)

I'll check into the Holiday Inn, and see how much they cost. You said you had a good experience there?
Is there someplace reasonably priced nearby that has decent food? Hopefully within 5-10 minutes of walking?

The Premier Travel Inn- do they have some way to help customers transport stuff? What is the price like- and is there a decent place to eat (also easy on the wallet) within a 5-10 minute walk?
