I received an email stating that tips for local guides are now included in the tour. They still leave tipping the tour manager and driver to the customer, but their lower price reflects this. I haven’t found preparing a tip to give at the end of the tour to be very stressful.
Carol, I'm wondering if they were getting complaints that people weren't tipping enough and this is their solution. Of course they're not going to say that, so they have to give some kind of reason.
I got this email too and it’s much appreciated! Gate 1 is the only company I tend to travel with where tips are not included so tipping all the local guides is a pain and this is a welcome change. Tipping the guide and driver is no big deal - I pre-pack that into an envelope before I even leave home.
I appreciate this change in Gate 1's policy. With so many cashless transactions now, it's sometimes hard to get enough 5s and 10s for tipping the local guides.
I appreciate this change, since otherwise I have to bring a lot of cash.
I dislike tipping and prefer the approach of Rick Steves to include tips in the overall tour price.
