Has anyone had any problems with their Garmin Nuvi in France? Someone was telling me that they are illegal to use in Europe. Why would they sell them with all the European maps if this is true?
My parents bought a Garmin Nüvi in Germany and use it all the time. There's nothing illegal to it. Some GPS systems warn of speed cameras and the use of such systems is illegal in some countries, e.g. Switzerland.
GPS systems are fine in Europe. 2 Way walkie talkies are not, maybe that's where the confusion came from?
The radios we can buy in our stores operate on their police frequencies and are a major no no.
I haven't ever heard that Garmin Nuvi's are against the law anywhere.
No one has reported, on this forum, that Garmin or any other kind of GPS is illegal in Europe. Questions have come up, so the myth persists, but that's all it is.
Thanks for all the feedback regarding the Garmin Nuvi. I did check out the Garmin website and I could not find anything that said they are illegal to use in Europe. Only 20 days and counting till our trip to france. Thanks again, everyone.
They are legal to use in Europe. When I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 780....it did mention some countries that you were not suppose to use in. I believe one of them was Cuba...not sure.
I highley recommend the Garmin Nuvi 780. Costco currently has them on sale for $250 after rebate. If you purchase it online from Costco you get the rebate immediately upon purchase.
