Fuel Prices Around Europe?

There's been a lot of conversation the past few months in the US regarding gas prices. My son sent me photos of pump prices in his Atlanta neighborhood. And fuel prices have also increased in Europe. With the onset of the Summer Season, we're not sure where they'll end up.

As many travelers have discussed renting a car for travel in Europe this summer, I am curious as to the current cost per liter in different locations. I appeal to the EU residents on the RS site, or folks who have driven recently in Europe, to provide the local cost of fuel they are experiencing. We're headed to France and Germany in our car - COVID permitting - in the next couple of months, so this info will "help" with our budgeting. I'll go first!

Down the street from our apartment, a liter of Euro 95 fuel costs 1.89€. To put that in perspective for USA travelers, you multiply the cost/liter by the liters/gallon (a US GALLON!) and then factor in the rate of exchange. This converts this €€€/liter cost to a US $$$/gallon price. Thus, a gallon of gas in our neighborhood costs as follows----> 1.89€ x 3.78 x $1.19 = $8.50 per gallon.

So yes, fuel costs much more here than the per-gallon price my son is being charged in Atlanta. Unfortunately, prices continue to rise and in other parts of the Netherlands, they're can be much much higher... See this article, posted today: https://www.iamexpat.nl/expat-info/dutch-expat-news/dutch-petrol-prices-rise-above-two-euros-litre-first-time-ever?

Our Renault gets excellent mileage but we do find ourselves often on the train given the costs of fuel and parking. I remember being in Luxembourg a year ago and filling up at 1.28€ per liter (stopped just before the border to FILL UP!!!).... Very curious about fuel costs in France as we're driving to Brittany soon. Thanks in advance.

Here in the north of Spain for a liter of diesel I am paying 1.29€ at the big stations, and 1.12€ at the independent and self serve places.

The 95 at the big stations is around 1.40€. But this weekend was the first "operacion salida" and it seems that the prices are going up again.

The cheapest in England is at supermarkets and Asda is usually cheapest and Morrisons second cheapest. Both Asda and Morrisons have recently been sold though, Morrisons just yesterday to a US wine store, and Asda prices have been creeping upwards and with American reputations for getting the most out of acquisitions for the least spent I worry about Morrisons prices too.

Today, on my app, near me, unleaded at Asda £1.27.7, diesel £1.28.7 per litre. Morrisons unleaded £1.26.7, diesel £1.31.7.

Total, the French company, by contrast, unleaded £1.27.9, super unleaded £1.41.9, diesel £1.30.9, premium diesel £1.45.9

you do the calculations. Today £1 = $1.38 - 1.17€

Fuel prices are rising almost weekly in the U.K. I am currently in Scotland and diesel varies from £1.28-1.33 /l at supermarkets to £1.45+ in smaller PFSs and on the motorway.

You probably know, but fuel is usually much cheaper at French supermarkets, but many close for lunch.

You probably know, but fuel is usually much cheaper at French supermarkets, but many close for lunch.

Fueling stations at supermarchés and hypermarchés in France typically have costs about 9 to 15 centimes less per liter than regular gas stations or fueling islands on Autoroutes. One can save 4 to 5 euros each fill-up just by filling up at an hypermarché rather than at an aire on the Autoroute.

However, not all, and probably not even most, supermarchés and certainly not the hypermarchés close at lunch -- it's generally smaller stores that do that. Moreever, many supermarché or hypermarché fueling areas have one or two "24/7" lanes that are open anytime and do not require the participation of an attendant in a booth to make payment.
