From St. Moritz to…?

My adult daughter and I are taking the Bernina express from Torino to St. Moritz and then sleeping there one night. We then have 7 nights to explore Bavaria, Munich and Salzburg.

I can’t find any direct trains from St. Moritz to any of those locations. Am I missing it - or does it not exist?

I was thinking one night Salzburg and then 3 in Munich and 3 in Bavaria - but am open to better suggestions.

But how do we begin this next phase with the least amount of train time?

Thanks in advance.

Since all the rail lines in and around St Moritz are narrow gauge, no chance of any direct trains to Munich or Salzburg from there. Best way to Munich is a train from St Moritz to Chur (on the beautiful scenic Albula railway, which is narrow gauge like the Bernina Express), then change to a standard gauge train to Zurich, where you will change to a train to Munich.

I think maybe you are going from Tirano. Torino is a large city west of Milan that is the home of Fiat Motors. English speakers call it Turin.

You don not have to make the detour to Zurich to travel to Munich. Just use the trip planner on www.sbb.ch to find a st. Moritz - Munich schedule for you. There is no need to make any a priori assumptions about the routing. But I would expect it to be st. Moritz - Landquart - st. Margrethen - Munich.

And yes, the railways do not offer direct trains between ant pair of towns in Europe, as that would be impossible. Changing trains is therefore a normal and expected feature of train travel.

To get from St. Moritz to Salzburg, you need to take a few trains but it is a very scenic journey.
The first step is St. Moritz to Chur over the beautiful Albula railway. Then, Chur to Buchs via Sargans (nothing special), and Buchs to Salzburg with the Railjet train, quite scenic around the Arlberg pass.

Given that it is a long journey, I would recommend 2 nights in Salzburg (and 2 in Munich), otherwise you will rush Salzburg.

When going to Salzburg you can also go via Scuol-Tarasp and a bus to st. Anton.
Another interestion option is to travel to Bolzano buy trains and bus, and from there you can also reach Sazlburg and Munich...

This was my first thought, and it saves 1 hour, but you miss the scenic Albula railway if you go that way.
