We would like to bus to Plitvice from Split, stay a day or two, then bus to Zagreb. Which bus stop in the park would we get off/get on? Are there hotels walking distance fron the stops? Thanks in advance for your help. Hank Novato, CA
The long-distance bus stop is right at the main entrance to the national park and won't be hard to recognize upon arrival. Timetables say Plitvicka Jezera (the second word meaning lakes). There are several hotels. See the map on p. 104 of Rick's Croatia/Slovenia guidebook (indeed, read the whole chapter) or see park info in English at http://www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/en/.
Laura, thanks for the prompt reply. It sounds very doable to travel by bus. Hank, Novato, Ca
We did that trip 2 years ago. There is a small covered enclosure on the road similar to a school bus stop. Across the street is a trail down hill to the 3 hotels which are run by the park - info in RS book. If you want to stay there, it is important to reserve in advance and difficult to get a confirmation but it worked fine. I made the hotel reservation MONTHS in advance as the options are limited without a car. We stayed 2 nights in the Jezero which is very nice and convenient to the trails - no transportation needed. Loved the park - there is nothing like it. Take your energy - very steep trails.
Dear Barb, thanks for your help. That sounds like what we are looking for. Hope to do Croatia in May of 2016. Hank, Novato, CA
