Freeze Dried Food Through Customs?

Hello! My husband and I are flying into Zurich to do the Tour du Mont Blanc in June. Does anyone know if freeze dried meals (like Mountain House) are allowed through customs in Zurich, coming from the US? What about other foods, like protein bars?
Thanks!

You should check the customs requirements of Switzerland, usually meat is a no no, in whatever form. And if in doubt, declare.

"Importation of animal products coming from other than the EU states and Norway is prohibited."

That seems pretty rigid, since freeze-dried packaged meals pose no hazard to local agriculture. If you want to bring them, you could declare them and let the inspector make the call. My guess is they would say they are fine, but if they want to enforce the regulation strictly you would lose them.

You may very well be able to find something similar at the outdoor shops in Chamonix. But how are you planning to cook them?

The same outdoor shop in Chamonix that will have the fuel cartridges may have freeze-dried food ( although it is less popular there). There are a number of climbing shops right downtown. You might look for one with a website and email and you could ask.

Make sure you understand the rules and customs around wild camping. This blog has good information on actual campsites along the TMB if you don't want to do the "stealth" camping.

She did a great job, I would say.

Looking for Chamonix climbing/trekking stores, I found this, an online store with several retail shops right in Chamonix:

I see fuel canisters for you Jet Boil and lots of other cooking gear, but not food. You could use the Contact form to ask about that.
