Free Podcasts-learn german/french-walking tours??

i'm going to berlin, netherlands, and paris and would like to learn some key phrases...i've already made a list of 10 or so that i need to know (hi, bye, how are you, do you speak english, etc.) but i've been looking on itunes for FREE podcasts to learn german/french...i've found plenty, but none that are good! they either have a tough british accent, or too much "frilly stuff" like bells and whistles...any reccommendations?

also, RS walking tour podcast: i found the one on the louvre and have it downloaded, are there any other RS ones for berlin or other good ones i should download that might not be RS? thanks!

In addition to the BBC languages site - iTunes has a variety of language podcasts with iTunes University.

There are also several different walking tours such as the Di Vinci code tour, a tour of Montmartre etc.

I found these on iTunes through a search "Paris Walking Tours".

tjay, if you're interested in Podcasts, have a look at Rick's site or check I-Tunes.

Cheers!

try your local library and see if they have the Pimsleur series. If you listen to the 1st 10 30-minute lessons you'll have simple greetings, requests, directions, etc. down solid.

tjay -
I tried to learn some Dutch before going to Amsterdam on my vacation. It was an INCREDIBLY difficult language to learn I personally gave up after the first lesson!
French is much easier, IMHO. Primarily since I learned it when I was younger.

I can't speak for Berlin, but you won't need to learn Dutch - everywhere I went English was used.

As far as Paris goes, attempt to use the French language. Even though a majority of them know English, they will still prefer that you attempt French.

You might consider Coffee Break French, available on iTunes or the home site:

I've gone through the Coffee Break Spanish program, and I liked it better than other programs I had to pay for. They also have some One Minute German lessons, but I haven't tried those. Good luck!
