Fraudulent booking.com email

I use my Apple email when dealing with booking i.e. @me.com.

This morning I got an email supposedly from booking to my gmail account. It said something about needing to validate my upcoming hotel reservation in Barcelona There was a link and I was given 10 minutes to click on. Of course I did not.

It looked perfectly valid and legit.

I have gone to my booking account and everything looks go.

I would like to inform booking of this but I can not find a general email to send them the information.

Does anyone know of an email address for booking.com where I can report this to them or should I report it to the hotel.

Booking.com can be difficult to commmunicate with in cases of fraudster third parties. I would send a photo of the bogus Booking.com imposter’s message in an attachment to an e-mail outlining the facts to the hotel.
The hotel should then be able to inform Booking.com about the scam.

This has been discussed here before. Some hotels on booking were hacked allowing fraudsters to somehow send emails that appeared to be from booking.com. I received one a couple of months ago. I contacted booking and they clarified that it was a fraudulent. I think they sent emails out or put notices on the reservation page but I don’t remember. It sounds like the hackers are at it again.

I can’t check right now but I think if you look at your reservation page there’s a link to their customer service department.

Good to have an updated reminder to not automatically click on links that may appear safe!

I had the same happen for two properties we reserved for our recent Christmas market trip in Germany and the Czech Republic. Within an hour I received authentic emails from both the property and Booking.com explaining the security breach and sharing customer service numbers for customers who may have been taken in by this scam.

Hopefully you have found a customer service number for Booking.com. Great idea to report it to the hotel as well.

Checking the email headers will reveal where the email actually came from. How to view the headers varies depending on your email client, you can Google how to do this. Similarly copying their false link and pasting it into any document will show you where they are trying to get you to go, you get to see 5he actual site, not the “booking.com” that they have replaced it with.

How did you contact booking.com?

I have been following the discussions about booking.com. I am among the persons who have posted information on what I have read or heard but this is the first time that I got what I believe is a fraudulent email

I want to report it to booking but I can not find a way to easily contact them. There does not seem to be any wys to "just send an email forwarding the fake email"

I think that might be what I have to do. I will have to message the hotel through booking.com. Maybe I can forward the email

I also received a fraudulent note within the booking.com app (and also via email because I set up my account to do that for every message). It’s important to note that the hackers enter the booking.com portal for that hotel so the fraudulent and legitimate messages are mixed together inside your account. This IS NOT a simple email phishing attempt with a mocked up logo. The hackers are inside the software and can cancel a reservation or send notices, same privileges as a hotel employee.

I just messaged the hotel.

This had nothing to do with my credit card or sending money as some others have stated.

This had something to do with verifying my information and providing a button.

Bostonphil7: Look at you booking.com reservation page where it shows all your reservations information. Part way down the page there is a section that says:Need Help? There’s a link: Contact Customer Service It’s not an email but a message to their customer service department. Have you tried that?

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago with Venice hotel. Also could not find a general booking.com scam reporting area. Was able to contact hotel which confirmed it was a scam.

Never got any kind of scam alert from booking.com. Tried to find info on who to contact at booking.com, email resulted in reply email stating I must call to discuss. I prefer not to call, just decided to avoid booking.com in future. Not sure how they will survive if they are unable to prevent this sort of thing.

Carol,

I tried but it got complicated. It never worked right

I decided to message the hotel and got. a message back but I feel the hotel does not understand the situation.

Here is what i got back from the hotel

"We would like to inform you that when you made your reservation through booking.com, the hotel does not have your email account so it must have been spam."

I do not believe that it is just spam.

I am going to have to leave it for now but i do not not like that it is so hard to communicate with booking. It was not like this years back.

I think they have grown too big.

Hi Liz,

I sent the hotel a message and got back this response

"We would like to inform you that when you made your reservation through booking.com, the hotel does not have your email account so it must have been spam."

Do not like this at all. I do not believe that it is spam.

And really do not like that it is almost impossible to communicate with booking easily. It was not like this years ago. I have called in the past which I do not like but I have also been able to email in the past.

I think that booking has gotten too big.

I contacted booking.com twice. The first time was actually indirectly since the Pension in Munich actually made the contact. He told me he was doing that for me as a favour since i told him I didn't know how . In the end the Pension did oblige me that favour. It was.

The 2nd time contacting booking.com dealt with a cancellation of the 2 star hotel in Paris in 2013. It did not go as I had hoped. I had figured on that anyway and let it go....rightly so.

Liz and Carol,

I was able to message booking.com and have found a way to call them if I must.

Phred

years ago, it was much easier to contact booking. Direct contact information was right on the homepage. Now you have to hunt it down.

I have already received a message back from booking. It sounds like it is from a bot.

"First and foremost, please accept our sincerest apologies for all the inconvenience that this may have caused. This is not what we want to our beloved guests to experience.

Kindly disregard the email you kept on receiving as the property confirmed that those email was not originated from them also you will be only paying this full amount of the reservation upon arrival and the property does not require you to pay any deposit so if there is a suspicious payment transaction kindly contact your bank provider immediately to blocked and hold of it furthermore you have nothing to worry any of your bank account even your booking account has not been compromise and this case has been escalated to our relevant team we will revert back to you as soon as the investigation was done thank you.

If you have any further questions, we are here to help you."
