Frankfurt Airport

Hey Everyone, Happy Friday!
This is a three part question. We're scheduled on Lufthansa flights next month. Our first leg is flying into Frankfurt, then a 6 hour layover before going to Lyon. Do we have to get our checked bags and go through customs and immigration in Frankfurt? And if we wanted to skip going to France (because of Covid) and just get off in Frankfurt, is that doable? Finally, on our return leg, we fly into Frankfurt from Croatia and then have a 10 hour layover, again do we have to grab our checked baggage and can we leave the airport and stay at the Hilton at the airport? Jeez, sorry for the length, I'm getting to old for this stuff!

Your bags will be checked straight through from your home departure airport to Lyon, so you can't claim them in Frankfurt.
You won't see them again until Lyon.
If you did get off a flight on the first leg of two stops booked on one airline, your return flights home will be cancelled in all likelihood, as you would be deemed a "no-show" for the second leg of your flights.
Can you change your flight to fly into Paris and just get a train to Lyon from there?
Seems easier, unless you have got a great deal with your present flights.
Frankfurt Airport isn't too bad for a layover.

Immigration in Frankfurt, customs in Lyon. You will not see your checked bags in Frankfurt.

No, your bag will be who knows where and your return flight will be cancelled. But, you can always call Lufthansa and see if you can rebook your flight to Frankfurt. It might be possible, airlines have been pretty flexible the last year.
