Four days...which location to hang out?

We need to hang out in Northern Europe for 4 full days in June of 2025, because it will save over $1000 each to fly home on a Tuesday, instead of any other day. We are trying to decide between three places.

1) Dublin. Maybe take some tours out of the city, as well as visit the Kilmainham Gaol, which we missed on the day a prior cruise stopped there.
2) Edinburgh. Visit the castle and some of the many museums. (Saw much of rural Scotland on a tour, but did not have a chance to explore cities!)
3) Paris. (Again, we've seen other parts of France, but not much of Paris.)

How do we pick? What would you do?
Update: It will probably cost $1500 for the travel, food, and hotels for the extra nights, but it's kind of like a free trip to a place we want to go.

I can't help wondering how much of that $1000 you will have saved once you have travelled to wherever you are going to stay from wherever you would be starting from, and paid for 4 nights hotels and 4 days of meals, drinks, attractions and incidentals, and also factored in the difference in flight cost from your new location.

But my pick would be Paris.

C Jean, that was exactly my first thought - that those extra days will probably cost $1000 or better and dissovle any savings on airfare. Any of the 3 places mentioned would be good, but I agree that my choice would be Paris.

Even if the extra days cost a thousand dollars, I’d rather spend the money in Europe than on the airline

I would base my decision on where I was flying out of, so I wasn’t spending a fortune on transportation

Good point Carol. And to be honest I actually missed the last sentence in the OP's post. Looking at it that way makes a lot of sense.

Edinburgh would be my choice as i am not a Paris fan.

I adore Paris, but I'd also pick Edinburgh. It's amazing how few people understand what a world-class city it is.

In this order....

Edinburgh....Dublin......Paris.

I've been to all three numerous times. I will definitely return to Edinburgh and Dublin. There are many other places in France I prefer over Paris.

I don't see how you can go wrong with any of the three. Sounds like you've seen a little bit of Dublin, so I'd toss a coin between Edinburgh or Paris.

Definitely Paris. I'm not a big fan of Paris(I prefer England and Italy), but definitely prefer it over Edinburgh and Dublin. The museums and food are better in Paris, plus the stained glass at Sainte Chapelle. Unlike Frank II, one visit to Edinburgh and Dublin was enough for me.

Kind of a fun choice to have to make!

I’ve visited all three cities—Paris five times, Edinburgh two, Dublin once. I would choose Edinburgh, because I know from recent experience that I’d have a great time! The city centre is compact, yet there’s so much to see and do (and eat) there. It’s full of marvelous museums, large and small. And the people are delightful.

However, I am not you. And you have not yet been to Paris. So if I were forced to choose on your behalf, my answer would probably be Paris. No guarantee that you will love it as much as I did, but I think it’s worth experiencing to find out.

I did enjoy the four or five days that I spent in Dublin, especially St. Stephen’s Green and the Chester Beatty Museum. But I don’t feel drawn to go back there. As big cities in Ireland go, I liked Galway more overall.

Thanks for the advice. And for helping us narrow down the choices. The comment about Galway has led us to think we need a separate trip to Ireland, one where we get out and about the country. There is much to see beyond Dublin!

So we are narrowing this quick four day jaunt down to Edinburgh or Paris for now. I really value all your thoughtful responses.

Where will you be traveling from? Maybe pick the city with the most contrast to where you will already have been on this trip? As far as weather, I think either Paris or Edinburgh would be equally pleasant. Not sure because both times I was in Paris it was Spring and I was in Edinburgh in August. So…….
