Hi, We are looking to book our train tickets from Milan to CT , then CT to Venice. I just wonder if there is a way to pick a forward facing seats at all. Thanks.

Not really. On reserved seat trains, you never really know which way the train will pull in and even when you are facing forward, then it will change direction at a stub station and you'll be riding backwards. You will be on several regional trains and those are open seating so you can usually at least start out in the desired position.

My solution: book seats facing one another. One of you is bound to be happy.

Laurel explained it well. We recently booked our train tickets . We were automatically assigned our seat numbers. The numbers were consecutive so I figured at least we will be seated besides each other or as Sam said facing each other.
