For Van Gogh lovers

I wasn't sure where to post this but just thought this article might interest some of the Van Gogh fans on here. As a member of MIA for about 20 years when I lived in Minneapolis, I sat and stared at this painting more times than I could count.

Thank you Nancy for posting this. As I wrote in a recent thread “I have been stalking Van Gogh for years!” LOL. Fascinating story! I love the Olive Trees. I have yet to get to St Rémy. Yep, part of the Van Gogh fan club!

That's terrific! Van Gogh is truly a gift that keeps on giving. Seeing stuff around Arles long ago was such a privilege.
Excepting The Twilight Zone, and the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy books, I've never been much for science fiction. However, when anyone tells me of an interest in Vincent, I immediately ask if they've seen "that one Dr Who episode" entitled "Vincent and the Doctor"? It's the only episode of the show I've ever watched, and it took my breath away-well, sort of! I'm betting both of you have seen it, if not you're in for a treat. Find it, I bet you'll love it.

I've seen a lot of Dr Who, and that's my favorite episode. Nice to hear that even non-Whovians appreciate it.

Thanks Nancy, that’s very interesting!

I did see the Olive Groves exhibition in May and it was very good. In fact, I did it first, did the rest of the museum then went back for a 2nd crack at it. Sometimes an exhibition on an artist’s take on a single subject doesn’t hold my interest, but this one did. (One that didn’t was a long ago exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute of Monet’s grain stacks. I was shocked that I lost interest).

I’ve not seen the Dr Who episode so I appreciate the info on it. I did love Loving Vincent.

Nancy, I love MIA and love this painting! Very interesting! Before I moved to Duluth, I lived in Stephens Square in Minneapolis, which was a bout a half mile away from the museum. I walked there so many times - this reminds me of how much I miss it. I think I need a trip to the Cities for some museum time!

Hi Janis, have not yet seen the other two you mention, but we did see Loving Vincent in a theater shortly after it came out-remember theaters? ;-)

For those not familiar, it won many awards, and the film production was quite notable:
"Each of the film's 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created using the same techniques as Van Gogh by a team of 125 artists drawn from around the globe."

Oh, and Celeste, "non-Whovians", love that!

Thank you, Nancy. I am and have been for years a huge Van Gogh fan. This is me: “ Viewers are just as interested as Van Gogh the man as Van Gogh the artist.”
