For The New Year - Max Raabe and The Palast Orchester

After much thought , I decided to post in this thread. While evidently German in culture and ethnicity , the material transcends national , and international boundaries . For those unfamiliar with the performers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Raabe . The program is narrated by Max Raabe ( in English ) . Entitled " Himmlische Musik " , or heavenly music , it is , indeed that . https://youtu.be/FiaNQG7HPpc

Hi,

Thanks for the link. My compliments on this selection. As Willi Boskovsky said at the end of a J Strauss piece, "immer weiter."

Thanks for sharing this! I just spent 45 minutes enjoying this gifted singer and his orchestra!

I absolutely agree with you; music "transcends national & international boundaries"

Happy New Year!

@ Steven....As a music professional you most likely know this already given your recommendation of the excerpt by M Raabe. There is 2 CD set loaded with this genre of German "chansons" sung by the original artists from 1914 to the early 1930s, the same span covered by M Raabe. The CD set is called "Das waren noch Zeiten." Now, for some more esoteric music, I recommend, "Der Berliner liebt Musike: Altberliner Melodien and Gassenhauer," also a 2 CD set, sung by the original artists, and containing classics and well know pieces by W. Kollo and P. Lincke.

@ Steven...As "they" say, "you'll be glad you did" when those CDs arrive, all the more so if one has a good/fluent understanding of German. I got my copies the old fashion way, ie, in a large music store in Berlin near far from Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse, "Dussmann" located on Friedrichstrasse. Generally very good prices but that depends on what the music CD is too. It is a 6 story building for books, film, books, maps, children's lit, music, all genres , say from Schlager, East German commie worker songs, jazz, classical, country western, popular, rock/roll, traditional Berlin songs, marches, etc, etc. ie, just a huge place. Closed on Sunday.
