Food in carry on luggage

Greetings all. I will be traveling to Rome tomorrow and I plan on bringing a few items of pre-packaged food such as granola bars and fruit roll ups. Will this be a problem as I go through customs?

Katie, I take Balance Bars with me on every trip, and it has never been a problem.

Dry pre-packaged food isn't a problem. Granola bars, candy bars, energy bars, etc. are fine.

Meats, cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables may be a problem. You can find the exact limitations for Italy online if you think you might be bringing something questionable.

As long as you declare it when you enter the country, you won't be in trouble. They just might not let you bring it into the country.

As long as they don't containg anything "too creamy" you are fine.

Bea makes a good point....keep to "solid" foods. Nothing liquid or too creamy or some idiot TSA person will insist it go in the 3-1-1 bag.

As others have said, pretty much anything prepackaged and "snacky" is fine. I've carried protein bars and slightly smashed chocolate chip cookies into Italy with no trouble.
