Flying Paris to U.S. with connecting flight in Dublin

Hello, I am considering purchasing a flight in August from Paris to Boston. The flight has a connection in Dublin with a 1 hr 55 min layover. I am not sure if this is enough time so that we won't miss our connecting flight to U.S or if I should look into another flight? Do we collect our bags and go through customs in Dublin? I tend to be very anxious when it comes to connections and airports that I am not familiar with so it would really help if someone could give me some guidance. Thank you so much.

Do we collect our bags and go through customs in Dublin?

No, customs is handled in Paris. (You can also fly direct from Boston to Paris with Air France.)

Dublin airport has a U.S. Preclearance facility for flights bound for the United States. You will go through customs and immigration there. I do not have an answer regarding collecting bags because I’ve only used Dublin for originating flights (inbound or outbound but not connecting). Otherwise it is a very simple process. Once you arrive in the United States you do not encounter passport control or customs. It will like a domestic process - deplane and go. Additionally, I can’t comment on the Paris to Dublin procedure.

Tom_MN - any idea if 1 hr and 55 minutes as a layover is cutting it to close time wise?

I think Badger has the wrong direction.

Correct, mea culpa.

We did this flight in early 2016 so take this information with a grain of salt. Our plane from Paris was late. Airline personnel met us and fast walked us to the right place. We did not get our luggage but were shown pictures of them and identified them as ours. Guessing they were x-rayed. I don’t remember if immigration or customs came first. We were told the plane would be held if we were not cleared in time. Family members had the same flight a week earlier with no flight delay and had no problem connecting with their flight. You might ask on TripAdvisor as there might be someone with more recent experience. I hope this helps.

I flew Aer Lingus from Italy to Boston with connection in Dublin in October 2022. In Dublin you will go through TSA-style security (shoes off, electronics out, x-ray machine, etc.). If you have Global Entry or TSA pre-check, it is worth nothing here (such as not having to take off your shoes). You will then go through passport control/immigration/customs. Global Entry will get you into the special line (shorter in my experience). You will NOT have to collect your luggage and re-check it.
