Does anyone know how easy it is to book last-minute flights within Europe?
From where to where and what is last minute to you? Same day?
You could always go to google flights, plug in tomorrow’s dates along with your itinerary and see what pops up. Then continue on to the website of the airline and see if those flights are really available. As with domestic travel, availability and pricing is dependent on many factors. “Easy” doesn’t always equal cheap.
Skyscanner is another metasearch engine you can use. Double check your flight dates when booking nonrefundable international flights outside the US because international carriers are not required to abide by the Department of Transportation 24-hour cancellation rule.
There are several budget airlines that operate within Europe, Whizz Air, RyanAir, EasyJet, Volotea. Begin with those. And also use Skyscanner.
The days of trying to shop the system to find a last-minute discount are a fading memory. Booking for a few days before departure is pretty much the same as two weeks or months. Prices do move around but good luck trying to figure out the motivations of computers and algorithms.
I am a fan of skyscanner too although more for Europe than this side of the Atlantic. One useful trick: If you are not sure what city you want to arrive at, you can enter your departure airport and then choose a country for destination. It will show all the cities with connections in that country.
It depends when and where.
If you try to book last minute tickets a day or two before Christmas, you may not have much luck. The same holds true for a holiday weekend.
But I have booked last minute tickets without a problem.
Thank you!
