Flights from Helsinki to Oslo

My son-in-law and grandson are traveling to Helsinki in July so that my grandson can play soccer with his team there. While they’re there, my son-in-law, whose grandparents came from Norway, would like to take a 3 to 4 day trip to Oslo and was wondering about quick RT flights.

Are there any airlines that have economical flights between the two cities? I know of Finnair, but it’s my understanding that it’s on the expensive side.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi Mardee, without knowing the answer to your question, I think the best site for checking a range of European airlines is Skyscanner. I am not sure if it includes EasyJet though so you would have to research that separately.

Look at Norwegian Air. As a “discount” airline, they have much lower initial fares. For more luggage and additional services, the prices can be higher, but still likely attractive. Prices can be different, depending on day of the week and the time of day. The Norwegian Website shows a calendar that shows what days have what costs. Flying Helsinki to Oslo could include a transfer flight at Stockholm, but again, time of day (or night) could determine that.

There is also SAS, and those are your options.

But where in Norway are his grandparents from? Are you sure that Oslo is the best destination?

Kim, Cyn and Badger, thanks for that info! I will check into it for him (he is not very technology oriented).

Badger, his family is from the Morgetal area in Telemark originally, I believe, which does not appear to be too far from Oslo. I do know that he plans another future (and longer) trip back to Norway with my daughter and maybe the kids, but that won't be for a few years.

Kim, yes, it is! They are both very excited. My grandson is 14 and this will be his first trip out of the country (except for Canada).

Not too far depends a bit on how you define far, Morgedal is about 3-4 hours from Oslo. So certainly doable if he wants to visit.

If you want a cheaper way to get to Oslo and have a bit of time to spare another option is to take the overnight ferry to Stockholm and then a train to Oslo. The ferry takes a while but is a bit of an experience, gives you great views of the archipelago and is very cheap.

At least going in the other direction, the ferry fare can go from very cheap to "ouch" if you wait too late to buy the ticket.

Google Flights says airfare for the roundtrip should be less than $200 on Finnair, economy of course. Less than 2 hours.
