Flight Question

If I buy a ticket from Washington, DC to Dublin and get off in Paris instead, is my return ticket from Dublin to Washington, DC cancelled?

You need to be careful with that. We had a flight from SFO to Rome cancelled because the FAA has grounded the large United airline planes, but we went to the airport because no one told us. So they rerouted us through Heathrow on Alitalia instead of Lufthansia through Frankfurt. We assumed that the return flight would have been left as it was. Well when I went to look and see any changes on the flight home I notices that there was no flight on there from Rome to Frankfurt, only from Frankfurt to San Francisco. It really was a big mess at the airport and almost missed the connection in Frankfurt. So I would call your airline and find out what may happen. With computers involved it's a domino effect.

I was afraid of that. The reason I asked, was that a ticket from DC to Dublin is 750.00 with a stop over in Paris. DC to Paris is 1100.00 Both flights on same airline. Paris is where I want to go first. Dublin is second, so that would work IF I could do the get off of the plane in Paris. But, looking at the answers, I guess not. Now to go look for flights from Dublin to Paris. Talk about going around elbow to get to shoulder.

Dont know if you bought your tickets yet but have you thought about booking it DC to Paris returning Dublin to DC???? Then you would only need to buy a one way Paris to Dublin.

This has a name- "hidden city" ticketing and "throw away ticketing". It is forbidden by the airlines and they won't respond well to it.

Throw-away ticketing has a better chance of working if you will throw away the very last leg of an itinerary, but not a middle leg. The open-jaw or multi-city booking that Chris suggests will often be priced midway between the two offers you have seen.
