Flight Price Alert Apps?

I’m trying to plan a trip flying Business class to Europe next fall in late September to the middle of October. Airline prices are exorbitant as we all know. I’m looking at prices right now that are thousands of dollars more than the same flight I took two years ago. Someone suggested using a “Flight Price Alert” app to monitor when and if current prices drop. Is this a good suggestion? If so, can anyone suggest a reliable app?

GoogleFlights has that option. Never used it though.

Ive noticed price changes are too unpredictable for the way I fly. Today Flight A costs $1000 and Flight B costs $1500 and I choose to watch Flight A ... in a few months Flight B could be cheaper than Flight A and I was tracking the wrong flight. With two options it would be easy to track both. Trouble is a day or two sooner or a day or two later x the options each day for most of my trips (I am flexible) could make for dozens of flights to watch.

I just log in every once in a while. My luck has been 3 to 4 months in advance. When a price looks good I grab it.

But you flying Business might have yet another advantage. You are probably buying fully flexible tickets so you buy a ticket and if the price drops you go for the refund on the difference in cost.

I'm not sure why one would expect business class tickets to be fully refundable, Mr E. Mine never are.

You don't need to use an app; any travel site online will send you fare alerts, but you
will need to register/set up an account.

Business class tickets used to be fully refundable, but airlines have now started to
offer different tiers of business class pricing, same as for economy. So there will
probably be fare conditions you need to pay attention to.

What's important is to get to know the pricing for the itinerary you want to travel so
you know what a good fare is, and can purchase the moment you see a price you
are willing to pay.

As we are coming up to Black Friday, you may want to keep an eye out for any
sales that might take place over that weekend.

Also consider different options for departure and return cities (I know this makes
things more complicated). For instance, if Barcelona is your intended destination,
would you be willing to fly to Madrid and take a 3 hour train ride to save $$$?

Some airlines are starting a new fare for Business Class called Business Lite. You get the seat and service on board but none of the perks--no lounge, no free seat choice, etc.

Google Flights will send you alerts for price changes (either direction) but it's for a set route and flight pair so you might have to set notices on more than one flight. Since your travel is quite a way off, setting them up now does no harm and saves you from checking all the time.

As noted, if you see a price that suits you, book it within a few hours, sometimes the deals don't last even that long. Occasionally I track prices for purchased flights after I book, if the airline I am using will offer a price adjustment if there is a drop. With Delta that comes in the form of a future credit that has to be sued within one year of the date it is issued. It may or may not be like that with other airlines, I only have experience with Delta.

I use google flights a lot. About 8 months ahead of a trip, I check it frequently for a few weeks to get a feel for what day of the week tends to be cheaper and how the price fluctuates. We only fly Delta, so that cuts down on the hassle. Then, when I see the price dip and I can live with the price, I buy the tickets. Then, mostly for my own satisfaction, I continue to get flight alerts for our flight --- for the tickets I bought in March for November, the price never again went anywhere near what I paid for them. Yes, it's kind of a ridiculous amount of work just to buy one thing that I want and kind of annoying to get alert emails every day.

I sometimes set alerts on Google Flights, but I fly Coach and depend more on my sense of what feels like a good deal in the current economic environment. With Business Class flights, there would potentially be $1000 or more in savings available from purchasing at the very best time. I wouldn't depend solely on price alerts from any website(s); I'd be checking every single day--and preferably multiple times a day. I don't know how quickly those price alerts go out after a price changes. I bet they're not instantaneous.

Google Flights works. I had a price alert set up a few years ago and received an alert after I purchased my tickets. We saved a few hundred $$ per ticket.
